Foreclosures rise, property prices in many areas fall, many who couldn't afford their homes end up becoming renters again and life goes on. Temporary big drop the next few years in big ticket discretionary spending is a given..

Using a HELOC to pay the mortgage is not just burning the furniture to heat the house, its more like burning the house itself one piece at a time to heat the house.

He's probably referring to the BANKS are able to get their money as long as there is equity - even if it means the home"owners" losing the house.

In the 30's there was some congressman rallying against the foreign holders of our debt as local farmers were booted to the curb - so this is bernanke's solution? Sell our farms to the globalization champions overseas and boot our local citizens to the curb when it is time to scale back on living la vida loca? Pathetic.

I didn't see much of the Uncle Ben show, but I noticed that comment when he said it and remarked to my wife what a clueless numbnut we have running the Fed.....<NG>

I think this all ends very badly, BWTFDIK? I'm looking for put entries tomorrow or Friday in housing, consumer and finance sectors.
