If there was an ongoing Cold War that amounted to a tantamount struggle between the US and the Soviet Union and its allies, prisoners should have been held until the "war" was over, i.e. 1990.

After all, those same advisers would (and did) work against US forces on another battlefield on another day, just like Al Qaeda.

But we never stooped to that level because it made no sense.
