<<Grupo Mexico Fires All La Caridad Copper Mine Workers to try to break
a strike. All 2,000 workers at the mine had their contracts canceled
after winning government approval, the company said. The workers had
been on strike since March to protest the ouster of a union boss, one
of a series of work stoppages that have crippled metals production in
the country. Once workers had received payment checks for the
cancellation of contracts, Grupo would seek to reopen La Caridad mine
with different workers. (Reuters, 20060714)>>
