The Marjorie Post 'camp' was more like a vacation resort with a big main lodge and smaller individual houses for herself and guests. She had a big collection of Adirondack Guide Boats, which impressed me because I admired the skill that went into their construction.

The Rockefeller estate was over 20,000 acres, and had a four foot wide clearing around the perimeter. During hunting season he had his security patrol the border to keep hunters out, because there were a LOT of deer on the estate.

There were other huge estates. Many had fallen into disuse and were overgrown. Even the private railroad tracks they had built into them were overgrown.

I lived and worked in the Saranac Lake area all summer, and it was one of the favorite times of my life. I could go down to a small lake and have a swim all by myself every day.
