I dont think the shelling is a big issue given the missiles that leap past these geographic considerations. Syria keeps its word in its treaties. The water problem can be dealt with there and it also involves other arab states i am sure who have interests in getting the syrian to sign some sort of document.
Look Nadine, Its impossible for israel to go it alone as they have. Same for US. The democracy in the region is a farce. All we have left that keeps us from the madmen are despots like mubarek, king abdullah and as TF suggests a new entry in assad.
I am not sure at all that israel will get more good out of what its doing than bad. I think olmert was doing a bernanke in order to get street creds with the arabs. Bernanke played hardball on inflation and was able to spark a huge rally when he apparently took his foot off the interest rate accelerator. In time, Olmert will have to do this in the mideast and recognize israel cannot go it alone.
