Yes the aims are not very precisely defined but that isn't too unusual with wars.

I could not disagree more. Every war we have ever fought was against a state or leader, and with a definite aim.

Victory would be a substantial reduction in the willingness and ability of Islamofacist terrorists to harm us.

How substantial? Would one 911-type attack per year suffice? Less?

Is it a victory if we suffer only sporadic attacks?

I don't think there is a simple solution or blueprint for victory, the war will be a complex and often muddled process.

You can say that again.

My thoughts are that war can accomplish some things very well, uniquely so, but that complex and muddled situations are best not addressed militarily.
