wages were rising then, no?? I think that is one reason he got away with it --

also the level of participation in stocks was lower??

Banking was more traditional then -- and hiking actually helped banks??

There's some other folks here who can give you a better answer, I'm sure. But I think this time it is different.

Fed officials were never "independent" -- but maybe today have more pressures on them as banking has morphed into something completely different today.
