I think any of us would accept torture like in "24", where the "suspect" KNOWS where the nuke is that's due to go off and kill millions, but won't tell. This is NEVER the situation.

The problem with torture is, where do you draw the line? Do you torture the guy who MIGHT know a guy who might know a guy..?
Some poor schlub who probably knows absolutely nothing?

That's why you we have to just say, no torture allowed. The fearful, the sadistic and the ambitious will abuse the option, if it's given to them freely with no consequences. I think that torture is still always an option, but it has to go along with the knowledge that the torturer will go to prison. If the torturer thinks the information that will be gained is worth the personal sacrifice, he'll do it.

If it's a fishing expedition, he won't.
