Until parents take responsibility for their children's education and behavior, their children will be ignorant and annoying...a delightful combination.

If you live around a big city and have plenty of money you may be able to shop around for docs but how do you find a good one except with good luck? Where is the consumer information on docs?

IMO a lousy bedside manner causes patients to clam up or doctors to ignore problems. Medicine is about communication but too many doctors think it's about THEM and not the patient. Ultimately, if a person can't get along with people then he/she shouldn't be a doctor.

but I know was a series of multi-billion dollar investments in incredibly risky projects

"A simpler measure – also derived from data provided by the industry – suggests that after-tax R&D costs ranged from $57 million to $71 million for the average new drug brought to market in the 1990s, including failures. (See Section II)...

Moreover, the Fortune 500 drug companies dedicated 30 percent of their revenues to marketing and administration in the year 2000, and just 12 percent to R&D."

So, let's do single-payer healthcare aka Medicare. The 'capitalists' should love the more efficient organization whether private or government. It's about money right?

People can pay for medical procedures like cosmetic surgery outside of their regular insurance coverage as well. What's to prevent that from happening if people don't wish to wait?

If the overall cost of healthcare declined by adopting single-payer and by getting rid of the AMA stranglehold and pharma gouging, what the heck would be wrong?

How many Canadians cross the border in order to save their lives? How many Americans are also crossing the ocean in order to get surgery that they can't afford in the US in order to save their lives? Canadians may not be able to get it fast enough but Americans can't afford it...what's the ultimate difference?

I know people who swear by Kaiser but I have no firsthand experience with HMOs.

Is it cheaper to have nationalized healthcare than private insurance companies and the uninsured ending up using ER's instead?

Teachers and schools get nailed if children fail tests, why don't parents?

Parents outnumber teachers at the voting booth.))

In my area parents are told not to help their kids. Worst thing I've heard of.

Funny, education (children, meaning K-12) and medical care being mentioned in the same post. Did you know that the United States spends more on both (education and health care) than any other country in the world? One is more private than the other - I'll leave it to you to decide which service do you think provides a higher level of quality.
