I think that could be the very reason that Israel is pushing so hard in Lebanon and is probably looking for any reason possible to escalate tensions with Syria.

They WANT Iran to make some overt move in the area to get the U.S. involved while we still have a large military presence in
Iraq and Bush is still in the whitehouse.

It's also the reason that the "moderate" Middle Eastern states are not coming down on Israel as much as they are blaming Hezbollah.

EVERYBODY in the region is scared to death of Iran and they want things to come to a head while the U.S. is still stuck in the middle of it.
