OS X cannot migrate all apps though either. If there is copy protection involved this has never worked for me. I have quite a few programs that barf on migration and always end up needing to reinstall these.

Please name the apps. I routinely make a bootable duplicate back-up of my entire internal drive on an external firewire drive, off of which I routinely boot. (Absolutely impossible in PC land. Drool and wish is the PC equivalent.) Never have I come across an app that would not fire right on up. Never. Yes, Photoshop CS2 requires one to terminate registration on one machine and initiate it on the other, but that's to be expected, since I have only one license. The app itself opens right on up to facilitate this licensing process, of course, and then it's only a matter of a minute or two to switch licensing back and forth, when needed.
