Where is the equivalent authoritative source that dissents from this view?

Authoritative source? It's called logic. Quit worrying about authoritative sources and use your brain. If you refuse to kill when attacked, you die. Duh! If an individual chooses to take that path, it's suicide. If a culture chooses to take that path, it's genocide.

That's not to say we shouldn't choose that path if we would rather die than kill or if we think there will be some reward in some afterlife for refusing to kill or if we think our death might make life better for others. This is a choice that cultures and individuals within cultures must make. My libertarian self would not intervene if and when you chose death for whatever reason. I'm not disrespecting that choice. I'm only insisting that your recognize the inevitability of death in making it. And I'm working of the notion that, by and large, death is not a desirable outcome.

I'm sure Saint Augustine understood that dead is dead.
