If we had to we could put as many in another location as we could in Iraq. We would have to have a big reason because it would be a strain, and we would have to change the way we deploy troops, but it could be done. Whether it could be sustained for years is another issue but the soldiers could be deployed. None of which means I'm supporting a war with Iran. I see the reasons why you consider it "absurd, reckless and self-defeating", even if I wouldn't go quite that far. It certainly would be risky and costly and difficult, if by war you mean full scale invasion. And bombers might not be able to do the job (depending on exactly how you define the job) because a lot of Iran's nuclear facilities are hidden, and there is some indication that some of them may be build under civilian housing or hospitals (although I have no idea if those claims are at all solid). If we were convinced that bombing through a hospital would be BOTH necessary and sufficent to keep Iran from having a nuclear bomb, and esp. if we were convinced that they would nuke Israel if we didn't keep them from getting a bomb, than the bombing would be both practically and morally justified but its really something you don't want to do. As for "Its a dismal failure" "No its not", "Yes it is", arguments I'm really starting to get bored by them so I'll pass this time and just argue more specific ideas. But I will say that - "we are fighting an unjust war against a country that never attacked us" is a highly questionable statement.
