I think that the single deepest reason is religious. We are not used to this sort of thinking, but to serious Muslims it's a very big thing. According to religious dogma an event like an appearance of a polity ruled by infidels in what formerly was perceived as part of Dar-al-Islam is totally unacceptable. It's against the will of God, and therefore absurd. That's why any demagogue can rally up anti-Israeli emotions at any time at will.

Rat can put it back in the bottle; take about 100 leaders from the entire area, take them out to Usal Beach, and dose them on acid. Probably have to have a few other leaders, too. Plus maybe the Dali Lama and Tutu to kep an eye on things. They don't need acid; they got there naturally.
My friends will provide the food. Almost everything else, too. The beach and redwoods will provide the rest.
