Worshipping an invisible, omnipotent God that thinks we, of all the evolved intelligences in all the billions of galaxies, with trillions of suns and quadrillions of planets, are his chosen ones, is just stupid.

I think the point tench was making is that "it helps" mitigate some of our tougher social problems. Doesn't make it true however, and the ill effects of religion transcend centuries.

"Religion is a manifestation of evolving human morality, not the reason for it. "

Worshipping an invisible, omnipotent God that thinks we, of all the evolved intelligences in all the billions of galaxies, with trillions of suns and quadrillions of planets, are his chosen ones, is just stupid. We really need a new idea that reflects our current state of knowledge, if we need religion at all anymore.

Man has a habit of thinking he is the best. Is it not possible there is a God and humanity is simply part of a very big family?

While I would never be a proponent for religion.......look how humans pervert the good things in religion.......I do think we should believe in something greater than who we are. I say that because from personal experience, there are events that happen in this world that science just can not explain. Those events could only come from an intellect whose abilities are much greater than our own.
