Maybe "a personal God" is code? I don't know about code, but it seems significant to me when you talk about people's religiosity. You have people who aren't religious, like me, and people who are. The people who are have two categories, the personal god and the impersonal god. That makes three categories. It seems to me the practical gap between the personal-god crowd and the other two is greater than the gap between the non-religious and the religious. At least that's how it looks from where I sit.
