Most of what the British called 'terrorism' wouldn't even be called that today, but 'sabotage', since it was against military targets

They were certainly illegal combatants to use a modern category. They were also the weak fighting the strong, as I like to point out. And they certainly used terror against some Arab villages, in the modern sense of the word.
