...it is supposed to be all about observing the wonderful universe around us.

Maybe it is in here some place:

"Melody seeks to fetter herself in rhythm,
While the rhythm flows back to melody.
Idea seeks its body in form,
Form its freedom in the idea.
The infinite seeks the touch of the finite,
The finite its release in the infinite.
What drama is this between creation and destruction--
This ceaseless to and fro between idea and form?
Bondage is striving after freedom.
And freedom seeking rest in bondage."
(Tagore, 1975)

Or, Maybe it is out there some place. I just can't decide...

How would a scientist prove the other guy wrong if he didn't observe the wonderful universe? Unlike religion, rhetoric isn't enough to establish a scientific paradigm.

Pearly, both Copernicus and Newton were forced to apologize to the Church for their mind bending discoveries.
Let's hope the Pope is ok with a quantum theory of gravity.

<It's more about ego and proving the other guy wrong.>

Yep, plenty of that to go around the scientific community, that's for sure.... being mired in the ego is what (in the spiritual/mystical community) hides truth and god interestingly enough.
