I have my own very "palpable" anger towards Bush and his policies, but in politics you have to be pragmatic to achieve a particular agenda.

There are times to be pragmatic and there are times to move from your gut. IMO the Dems have been way too pragmatic and it shows.

That's why the Democrats are supporting Casey in Pennsylvania even though he's anti-abortion and relatively pro-gun.

Exactly my point.........if the Dems start supporting people who are pro gun and anti abortion what is the difference between the two parties? Those are two of the most important differences between the Dems and the GOP. I want to win but I don't to sell my soul to win.

If you're too rigid in your ideology then you will never be able to appeal to the centrists and independents that swing elections.

This goes beyond rigidity. There are some things that are either right or they are wrong. There is no gray. Women have a right to privacy when it concerns their bodies just as men do. Do we want to go to the time when women got abortions in the back room of a bar with a coat hanger?.

Guns kill people. We have the highest crime rate of any first world nation. How many times do you hear of snipers taking out people on Dutch or Norwegian freeways? How many cities in Germany have serial snipers and a serial rapist/killer besieging them? Freeways in as diverse places as LA, OH and IN are dealing with freeway snipers. Phoenix has two serial snipers and a serial rapist/killer.

Americans never ask themselves the hard questions. They never stop to realize how much freedom they loose by the proliferation of weapons. My cousin who is an MD in a small, very safe city in FL carries a concealed weapon to office. What kind of madness is that? What is happening to the people? Why are we time after time moving from our fears? Why are our leaders playing to those fears?

Before you ask people to be pragmatic and to ignore what their gut is telling them, look around........do you like what you see? I don't. There is something very wrong in this country, and since Clinton, its gotten worse, not better.
