Mosley looked very sharp against Vargas. He would have been a very tough night for any top welter/jr. middle that night. To my eyes, it's the best Mosley's looked in years. Mosely's jab was great. He was quick and he was deadly accurate. That was a picture perfect, hall of fame, KO left hook he used to KO Vargas. Vargas had nothing, but his having nothing doesn't take away from what Mosely had.

The smart fight and the money fight for Mosley is with Mayweather. I would pick Mayweather to win that fight but it would be interesting. Mosley should, as you point out, stick with the lighter weights.

Mayweather needs to fight a meaningful fight and soon. Mayweather has so many options and it seems he's missing all of them. Margarito, who he would beat. Baldomir, who I think might be a very tough fight for Mayweather. Hatton and Cotto are there. DLH is there. What's he waiting for?

Vargas hasn't been the same fighter since Trinidad. The last time Vargas looked really good in a fight was against DLH in 2002. It's been all downhill since then. He looked beyond terrible against Mosley and should never fight again. Vargas, like the hopefully retiring Gatti, was a huge ticket seller. Vargas was also a big time legit PPV draw, while Gatti was usually HBO level (20 times) which isn't too shabby. Vargas had a charisma in the ring and he was a genuinely exciting fighter when he was at his best, which was not nearly long enough. I've heard he's a fairly good businessman and I wish him well.
