but the damage done to Israel in the region is going to take decades to overcome.

As opposed to all the good Israel did to itself by trying to make peace, and looking weak?

Israel hasn't got a way to make itself liked. Failing that, it has some remedial work to do on being feared.

Someone else pointed out that the main US-Israel foreign policy objective in the region should be somehow convincing the Arabs that it's OK to have a Jewish country next to them. The destruction of everything in Lebanon sure doesn't help that marketing effort.

Dubyette and crew LOVE WAR. It's profitable, it allows the destruction of civil liberties, it silences the opposition, it cows the media....what could be better for rightwingers than that?

Until there's a pill for that, we're going to be seeing this kind of utter baloney forever.
