If US forces were not bogged down in Iraq would we consider inserting Marines to cut Lebanon in 1/2 and trap Hizballah between them and Israeli forces?

I don't think it's a question of bogged down. It's a question of whether the US would want to insert a couple of battalions of Marines as an active fighting force - for if one lesson was learned in 1983, it is never to insert Marines as sitting duck peacekeepers.

If the decision was yes, they could certainly find enough Marines to do it. But I don't think the decision will be yes.
