During summer break when I was visiting my parents in Florida during the late 1970s, I was collared in University Square mall by voter registration people. One asked me what party I was registered with. We don't do that here, you vote in whatever primary you want, just can only vote in one. So a) I was out of state and it didn't matter and b) I wasn't registered with any party. So I told her I was registered with the Communist Party and offered to show her my card, since Communists by legend are supposed to have such things. She got extremely alarmed, I was afraid that she was going to call security...

Good point. Us independents don't get sh-t. In FL we can't even vote in the primaries.
