Etch, options grants should be more tightly controlled, not
eliminated. Prudent use of options is a valuable tool.
Spendthrift use of options is not desirable.

I can't tell you how many officers of small cap semi cos.
have 'hit the options lottery' over the years, while the
stock price languishes, or the company eventually goes
broke. The shareholders are more like 'bag holders'.

I'm in favor of salaries for mid-cap and large cap cos.
Startups and small caps might need more leeway to compete.

Yes, some options holders will not 'hit the lottery' through
no fault of their own. But, some who don't deserve to 'hit
it big' DO get far more recompense than they deserve.

Options are not raindrops from heaven, and should not flow
like water.

UPDATE 1-RESEARCH ALERT-Credit Suisse ups chip sector
Tue Sep 12, 2006 8:42am ET
(Changes source, adds details)

Sept 12 (Reuters) - Credit Suisse raised the semiconductor equipment sector to "overweight" from "market perform", saying that memory spending will remain stronger longer than most investors expect.

The brokerage also upgraded Applied Materials Inc. (AMAT.O: Quote, Profile, Research) to "outperform" from "neutral, but reiterated its "outperform" on Lam Research Corp. (LRCX.O: Quote, Profile, Research) and said it was restricted on Kla Tencor Corp. (KLAC.O: Quote, Profile, Research).

On Applied Materials, Credit Suisse said checks suggest a pick up in order activity from memory companies was improving the company's visibility and raised its price target to $20 from $18.

The brokerage maintained its price target of $49 on Lam Research and said valuations offer substantial upside on the stock.

Credit Suisse also raised its 2007 capital expenditure estimate to 6.7 percent from 2.7 percent.

The brokerage believes that half of the world's memory capacity is still on an ageing fleet of chips which need to be replaced soon and memory chips are diversifying away from personal computers into niche areas like handsets, games and other specialty memories.
