>Reminds me of the India/Pakistan conflict on Kashmir...>

Hmm... What is common between two conflicts?

The British were in control when the problems started. Could they have encouraged and promised certain parties what was not their due?

In both cases, two countries (Israel and Pakistan) were founded exclusively for their own religion in regions where multi-religious populations existed.

In both cases, the countries have been supported by US (UK). If US withdraws support for Israel or Pakistan, there could be peace relatively soon.
