But on the northern border Israel still has a bunch of territory, including disputed land with Lebanon. That is a rallying cry for Hezbullah.

What land?? Sheebaa farms? The UN has stated that this disputed land does not belong to Lebanon, but Syria and falls behind the "Blue Line" that demarcates the Lebanese-Israeli border:

On June 16, the Secretary-General reported to the Security Council that Israel had withdrawn its forces from Lebanon in accordance with resolution 425 (1978) and met the requirements defined in his report of May 22, 2000; namely, Israel had completed the withdrawal in conformity with the line identified by the United Nations, South Lebanese Army militia had been dismantled, and all detainees held at Al-Khiam prison had been freed.[3]

The January 20, 2005 UN Secretary-General's report on Lebanon explicitly stated: "The continually asserted position of the Government of Lebanon that the Blue Line is not valid in the Shab'a farms area is not compatible with Security Council resolutions. The Council has recognized the Blue Line as valid for purposes of confirming Israel’s withdrawal pursuant to resolution 425 (1978). The Government of Lebanon should heed the Council’s repeated calls for the parties to respect the Blue Line in its entirety." [3]

Do you know which bunch of land you are talking about? In 2000 Barak withdrew from Lebanon. Even brought the UN in to certify that Israel was out of Lebanon, beyond the international border.

So what was Hizbullah to do? Their raison d'etre had just gone away!

They found a small patch of Syria, called the Shebaa Farms, and decided to claim it for Lebanon. That way they could still fight "occupation."

It really takes a tremendous ignorance or gullibility to think that further Israeli withdrawals could have prevented this.
