"Or is it the fact that a small nation like Israel is able to defeat (and embarrass) vastly greater numbers of Arabs over and over again in defense of their right to exist as a state?? "

Its that but its also the israeli economic success story which is a stick in the eye of arab regimes. Hawk, I have given up thinking demcracy is the anwer now that iraq is virually lost. Geographically syria is the key player. The only way to stop iran in lebanon is to neutralize syria and get them back in league with the moderate arab states. To do that requires Golan return and US re-engagement as with Libya. Syria is sunni and would more naturally see their interests aligned with arab states than persia.

The fact remains that rather undemocratic states make peace with Israel, while their populations might not, given more freedom. That is what needs to change, and Israel must consider whether its actions help or hinder this process.

So what's the REAL problem here?? Is it that the these Arabs believe Israel is bent upon some form of expansionist imperialism??

Or is it the fact that a small nation like Israel is able to defeat (and embarrass) vastly greater numbers of Arabs over and over again in defense of their right to exist as a state??

Both are factors.
