I am not quite sure that I understand your point.

Fundamentally, I don't see crude and biomass competing. At the end of the day, all the crude on the planet wil be burned, so why would the petroleum folks care to rail against biomass. This isn't like Thomas Edison pushing DC power against Nikolai Tesla and the AC crowd, or Beta-Max versus VHS where only one will survive. Sure sales today as opposed to the future means cash in the bank, and that is always nice.

The way I look at it, if ethanol does consume more energy than it releases, it is a net plus for my oil stocks. We will just burn it up faster. I simply hope that civilization is around for me to enjoy my winnings.
