It's a stretch when the opposition assumes Israel is out to destroy Lebanon, all Arab prisoners in Israeli prisons are innocent, and Israel is the problem since Hezbollah can't hit the broadside of a barn with their missiles...

During war? Why would you think they were not at some level of war? It was only a few years since Israel unilaterally retreated from Lebanon. They didn't sue for peace or sign a treaty, they just did the cut-and-run thing. So what makes you think that means the war is over? Should Israel negotiate with them as a legitimate representative of the Lebanese government, acting within their legitimate authorization to protect the country of Lebanon? Israel, when under the leadership of neocons, doesn't negotiate with anybody. If some group kidnaps American border guards ... You really only have superficial understanding of your own examples. One town I frequent is Laredo Texas. Gangs do come over from mexico. The shoot across the river.
