Lieberman was offered a deal by Clinton. I will endorse you now, but if you lose the primary, you have to go away and accept defeat. No running as an independent. Lieberman may very well have accepted that offer. And if he loses the primary, Clinton will strongly back Lamont. Again, Lieberman made a terrible mistake backing Bush's misleadership into Iraq. Lieberman seems to back any war, no matter how costly, that he thinks might protect his beloved Israel. That's fine, but he's a senator in the wrong country if he believes that. He ought to move to Israel. The US is not Israel and we dont want to be Israel.
