"There are operators we're aware of that may be considering whether to overlay with GSM," he said in an interview. "But I'm not aware of anyone that's going to be shutting down their CDMA systems."

Telstra has made it pretty clear that they intend to do just that, as far as I know.

+ Then again, some may recall the Bill Gates memo in which Jorma stated Qualcomm’s EV-DO was a fraud.

In retrospect, it was a strategic error for Nokia to assume that EVDO would never see the light of day. Qualcomm made the same type of comments re: EDGE, albeit they were made in public vs. a private email.

For some reason, your summary of TI's conference call missed the most important point for Q investors....WCDMA units were up 40% sequentially (vs. Q's 24% QoQ). Great for QTL, but they are kicking the crap out of QCT.

Another datapoint that Q's 100 million WCDMA estimate will prove too low.

3G revenue continued to set the pace and was up over 70% from a year ago. We believe we are continuing to gain share in WCDMA modems, further extending the leadership position that we already hold. In fact, our WCDMA digital base-band unit shipments were up 44% over the first quarter. Overall, the wireless end market is developing consistent with our expectations.
