Israel has zero interest in destroying Lebanon. What they want to destroy are Hezbollah fighters and their support mechanisms. While the whole situation is tragic, you can't blame the Israelis too much. They want peace. And Hezbollah violated them. Imagine yourself if your family kept getting bitten by rats at night while you slept. You knew the rats were in a large nest in the basement. You had tolerated them for years but now you're pissed. So you buy a flame-thrower and go downstairs. Now, do you kill just a few rats, or do you figure so long as you're there why not kill them all? You kill them all, right? So you don't have to make a second trip. Only risk is, make sure you don't burn down your house while you're torching the rats. PS: I am for peace ASAP in the Middle East. This whole thing has gotten way out of hand and a lot of it is being driven by religious extremist nutballs.
