I can agree with this much. Its not all about the two captured soldiers. Their capture (and the other soldiers killed at the same time) was more of a last straw than the sole reason for the Israeli attacks. But "last straw" isn't the same as "pretext".

Such all out war is not possible on the spur of the moment.

What Israel has already done is quite possible on the spur of the moment. What they have not done (a full scale invasion of Lebanon) is difficult on the spur of the moment and wasn't done of the spur of the moment. Its been a couple of weeks and the invasion still hasn't happened.

Some Israelis have for decades sought occupation and ownership of all of Palestine.

Yes but not the Israeli government, who imposed a withdrawal from Gaza.

the Israelis are being encouraged to virtually destroy Lebanon as a state

The Israelis are being encouraged, or at least not prevented from, causing serious harm to Hezbollah. Destroying Lebanon as a state would require a far more extensive operation than anything Israel has done in the current conflict, and would not be supported by the US, UN, or Europe.

Second, the Israelis are attacking another country with American weapons in violation of US laws.

There is no violation of US laws, or any agreement Israel has with the US, when Israel responds forcefully to an act of war committed against it.
