The economists at George Mason all have blogs, but none of the history profs.

Seems like blogs are a good way to show off your "wares" when your profession is one that involves analyzing policy and making recommendations for future action. Lawyers are advised to put blogs on their websites as a marketing tool.

Cole is in the marketplace of ideas, he comes up with ideas for a living, and the people who "buy" those ideas are free to reject them. Hopefully for rational reasons, but you can reject a prospective hire for almost any reason, as long as it's not a violation of law. You can reject them because you don't like their haircut or the way they dress or their table manners or their voice -- and their ideas and the way they express them.
