the Israelis were driven out of Lebanon by Hezbollah in 2000 after their failed occupation there,

Driven out might be a bit strong. Israel left because they had achieved one objective (hitting the PLO in Lebanon), and the price paid for being there (both in terms of Hezbollah attacks, and in terms of world opinion) was higher than the perceived benefit from sticking around any longer. There was no humiliating defeat, or any defeat in strictly military terms, although Hezbollah can claim the win since they where the force remaining in Lebanon whatever the reasons.

and achieve a massive land grab for the creation of a Greater Israel!

Nonsense. Even those in Israel who desire a "Greater Israel" desire the West Bank and Gaza, and permanent control of the Golan Heights. If there is any plan for an occupation of Southern Lebanon (and I'm not sure that there is any such intention) it would only be to try to attack Hezbollah and/or to create a buffer zone so as to make Hezbollah's rocket attacks more difficult. If there was no Hezbollah, Israel wouldn't be in Lebanon now.

No, I don't think Israel is land-grabbing. Just putting a buffer zone out there. If the Hezbollah rockets didn't go 20 miles, they wouldn't need a buffer zone.

Of course, in the end, only peace will fix this. But in the meantime, they're just being local tough cops. Punishing the attackers badly. Maybe too much. Time will tell.
