Carter paved the way for peace with the Soviet Union by being the first president not to stonewall them. Gorbachev and Reagan could not have had any success without Carter lowering tensions first. By Carter's era the Cold War was just plain stupid for both sides and all opf mankind. What a huge huge waste that Cold War was, and it was the mega-hawks who created it. Carter didn't know how to fix the runaway energy prices, but is Bush doing anyting about them now? Energy prices have more than doubled under Bush-Cheney, who in 2000 made the false promise that they would use their clout in the oil biz to jawbone the big producers to bring down prices. What a big fat lie that was. They did just the opposite. So Bush is the new Jimmy Carter on oil prices. It's true isn't it? And has Bush made us safer with all his war-making in Iraq. Not a bit. In fact we're much less safe, not to mention a lot poorer and deeper in debt. Bush is a failure on every front but cheating to steal elections. There he's a huge success.
