I agree with you. Congress wants to do something to say they did something. They actively work to undermine existing laws while claiming new ones will solve something. This is why I feel that stage one must be to aggressively enforce existing employment laws. Without jobs or other financial benefits illegal immigrants would drift back to their countries of origin.

Enforcing the border with Mexico would be a good idea. We could then fund the Coast Guard more fully.

One of the main reasons that muslim terrorists have not more aggressively moved against the US is what you pointed out: without the US buying goods services and resources the world economy will be hurt. This would harm the sponsors and the terrorists might find their support cut off.
