"This worries me a great deal. Turkey has been a long and valuable ally yet many of us have come to respect the Kurds who are also a valuable ally at least in Iraq. I sure hope that this can be worked out without violence. I wouldnt want to side with either of them, which could mean we end up losing both of them. The Kurds need to put an end to these cross border excusions themselves. What could we do to get them to see this? jdn"

JDN...Exactly! Well said. This isn't about who could kick who else's ass as some seem to think. It is about two allies of the United States. Two democracies (or what pass for democracies in that part of the world), two of the more stable government/social groupings. If they go at each other over the usual reasons...long-standing ethnic hatreds, there is no way the U.S. is a winner. Our efforts to keep the cap on it, or solve it, will take resource away from elsewhere....and right now there is no extra resource to give. Turkey will respond to economic incentives, I think, but the article pointed out that there are political pressures at work here that can distort everything. Frankly, the Kurds need to cool their jets...IMHO.
