Good point. Should have said hotter OR colder. The point is, this planet has been in a very narrow band of temperatures, and that band is required to support life. If temps move very far out of that band, for whatever reasons, the results will most likely be disastrous. A mere 50 degree rise, which is nothing compared to other planet's changes, and the ecosystem will likely be destroyed beyond the ability to support life as we know it.

Saw a chart about a month ago relating to CO2 levels throughout the earth's lifetime. At the end it is a vertical spike way above any prior level.
