Ideally you could ask questions, or debate the ideas, without making personal attacks, or making yourself the target of personal attacks, but often it doesn't work out that way. Goes against our inherently simian natures. There have been so few threads on SI where this is possible, that you would need only one hand to count them all, with fingers left over. And even then, the civility has been due largely to a strong moderator; Ken (Faultline) or Dale... I like this thread because not only is civility enforced, but demonization of the Other is verboten. That's highly civilized, in my book.
