Pity Bourdain didn't say why he was upset with the embassy, but most people have hopelessly unrealistic expectations in situations like that. The second they don't get what they want they go ballistic. Beirut was an embassy in a very high-threat environment before this blowup, which severely restricts staff movements and what they can do. And no embassy in the world can help to get thousands of people out of a country smoothly on no notice, especially with air raids all around. Not to mention it's good publicity for a cable TV host to take gratuitous swipes at people in a national newspaper, LOL.
