SanDisk Second Quarter Earnings Call

Improved pricing as well as higher retail sales helped net income grow 36% to $95.6 million, or $0.47 a share, over the year-ago period.

The revenue at SanDisk (NASDAQ: SNDK, BullBoards), maker of flash memory, grew 40% to $719 million over the year-ago period. As per the NPD independent market data, SanDisk's mobile cards commanded 96% market share in U.S. retail in June. During the quarter, the company has introduced the world's fastest flash card - Extreme IV, which has up to 40 megabyte per second write rate. While the company has not given EPS guidance for third quarter, analysts' expect EPS of $0.58, on sales of $79.19 million.

D R Horton Third Quarter Earnings Call

Net income dropped 21% to $292.8 million, or $0.93 a share, on slowdown in the housing market.

Despite the fall in the net sale order to 14,316 homes from 14,980 homes, the revenue rose 9% over the year-ago period. The largest home builder in the U.S. took a pretax charge of $57.2 million to write off earnest money and pre-acquisition costs related to land option contracts. The firm believes that the overall unit inventory will fall as it delivers backlog and continues to reduce its starts to reflect its current sales environment. D R Horton (NYSE: DHI, BullBoards) has lowered its fiscal 2006 EPS outlook to $3.65.

BlackRock Second Quarter Earnings Call

Solid performance at its cash management business pushed the second quarter revenues up by almost 33% to $360.7 million over the prior-year quarter.

The quarterly earnings of the financial services company included about $12.5 million of expense related to the pending Merrill Lynch transaction and approximately $12.3 million for the firm's Long-Term Retention and Incentive Plan (LTIP) expense. The $8 billion merger deal with Merrill Lynch, which is moving ahead as per the plans, will position BlackRock (NYSE: BLK, BullBoards) as one of the biggest institutes in asset management. For fiscal 2007, EPS is projected to range between $6.45 and $7.05, excluding merger charges.

BellSouth Second Quarter Earnings Call

Normalized net income crossed the $1 billion mark, aided by strong growth in the Cingular Wireless and high speed Internet services.

The revenue of the leading telecom service provider rose marginally to $5.21 billion over the year-ago period. While BellSouth added 128,000 new DSL customers, its total access lines were down by 460,000. The management attributed the decline to seasonal issues, increased usage of mobile phones and strong competition from cable providers. The BellSouth (NYSE: BLS, BullBoards) and AT&T (NYSE: T, BullBoards) merger plan has been approved by the shareholders and the deal is likely to be completed in the fall of this year.
