The reality is that the EU's have been paying $4/gallon for a long time and our fuel has been artificially low. My Dad sequentially predicted 0.75 gas when the enviro-punks first started screwing with the utility companies, and 1.50 gas that rose to that level on about the exact day he prognosticated. With a PE in Valuation & Planning and 40+ years experience, my Dad was a pretty sharp dude. We could run a major portion of the USA on BioGas from anaerobic digesters - very efficiently, but that technology is being totally overlooked because pinwheels and solar panels are "..sexier.." even though quantumly less efficient. Things will change, and there will be AD's everywhere some day and a lot less poo-stink from feed lots and slaughter houses. The sums squandered on advancing pecker pumps and viagra-clones would change the face of the US energy picture, but first the oil meddlers and idiots have to be overcome. It all takes time.
