It's analogous to the blunder of backing Chiang Kai Shek in China - a blunder of historic proportions that may take half a century to turn around, whenever we correct it.

What are you saying? That we should have supported Mao and his "long marchers"?

Or that we should have supported Imperial Japan?

Chiang Kai-Shek WAS THE HEART of China's struggle against, not only the Japanese, but also the Communists and Chinese dynastic rulers:

There simply wasn't any political rival to Chiang in the KMT who was powerful enough to eclipse him.

He damn well wasn't "Mr. Perfect", but considering how well Taiwan has performed economically, despite being in the PRC's shadow, it seems that maybe the error was in permitting the Maoists to win in China.

Maybe the Chinese "economic miracle" we're currently seeing might have occurred 40-50 years ealier.
