If you go back far enough, I believe AIDS comes from heterosexuals in Africa- or that's the theory. As you probably know it is widespread in Africa in the heterosexual community.

So the most likely spread? Hunters in Africa eating monkeys spread the diseases to others as early (possibly) as 1930 or 1940 (HIV 1). HIV 2 found in 1945.

Please note the patient zero stuff is mostly myth.

Anyway, enjoy the article.

No, actually, I was more on the point than I thought after reading back. Everyone else was confusing E's point about activities that involved risk-- whether they involved choice (sex) or force (second hand smoke)and all were trying to create weird "what if" scenarios that were irrelevant.

AIDS is a fact of modern life and so our decisions must take it into account, just as we assess all factors. Yes, it is a threat to you, to all of us. But responsible homosexuals who treat relationships and their health with respect and commitment are not a specific threat to you. They share the risk we all do because of the past.

Because there are a number of factors involved in the spread of AIDS (and I think we covered them ad nauseam several years ago on another thread) and how and why it spread through the gay community, it isn't as easy an explanation as many try to make it. But of course, people frequently take the easiest solution, and the one most compatible and comfortable with their own beliefs. It is very difficult to change the inbred familial, cultural, and religious cores that inform the sort of mind that writes about rumpriders and screwing boy monkeys and finds it witty.
