The UN has done a great job in many cases around the world, and can continue to. They have had a few scandals, but nothing major. In general, they are a fine organization, but only effective when backed by the US.

What Bushies believe is that we don;'t need the UN. They are dead wrong. They believe we should do whatever we want whenever we want without asking anyone's permission. And look at the results in Iraq, North Korea, Iran, Palestine, Venezuela, Somalia. All many times as dangerous to us as before 2001. Part of the reason for that is that Bushies snub the UN. The other reason is that Bushies are corrupt, incompetent and not trusted or respected in the world.

Bushies had the chance to become the righteous world leaders after 9-11 when when Iran supported them, but they threw all that goodwill away and snubbed their noses at everyone. As if no other country matters except us, and even in the US, only the 25% most rightwing voters matter. 25% of the country who are xenophobic and don't understand foreign relations and international issues.
