All the Iraq war news has virtually dropped from press coverage. I believe that last week was the worst week in terms of casualties in the Iraq war, but nearly zero press coverage. SO perhaps the rally simply rushes in to fill the void about the Iraq war (the false hope that this wag-the-dog will make people forget come next election).

It's like that Twilight Zone "To Serve Man" with people competing to get on the ship to fly away to their final meal.
