CLinton's policy on North Korea was the best we could do. Bushies would love to duplicate that level of success on North Korea, but they've painted themselves into a corner, refusing to even talk to NK. Same with Iran and Syria. That's poor diplomacy and it's now proven failure. Bushies would have to lose face now by flipflopping and going back to the negotiating table. And they don't even have any able diploats left at the top levels. Powell was the last one and they forced him out.
