I just finished faxing in a request to Schwab 888-526-7252 to switch my account to a non-margin account. They told me that if my shares were already lent they'd have to get them back. Who needs to be on margin anyway, right?

Ok, splain somethin to me Lucy, if there is
a significant amount of naked shorting, on top
of the hedgies shorting, what will make the
naked shorters stop? I mean they're selling
shares they don't own and taking the money and
running, right? Why would they stop unless
someone or something forces the issue?

I bought a few more shares today but this
is getting really old.

Humm, wish I understood exactly what the reply from the SEC said. I am a little concerned about the line that said SIPC insurance might now cover if the share were loaned out and not returned.

I don't think I would ever buy on margin as I wouldn't ever want to get extended like that on something that might not turn out as expected. I use credit cards but also pay them off each month. I only have a margin account in case I ever wanted to short a stock, which I would probably not have the guts to do anyway. With all that said it seems to me that folks like should never have a margin account which allows brokerages to loan my shares out to be bet again my long position, even though shorts if wrong, do propel the PPS much higher.

Anyone else have second thoughts about having a margin account. Guess we should all be suspicious since the brokerages don't charge us for having them, it must be to their advantage. :)

I can't tell you how impressed I am that you received a substantive reply, and so quickly.
