Republican working class people can't figure out where their best interests lie. SS will be there for them if we just eliminated the income cap. After the baby boom come the busters and then the mini boomers after them. It's a cyclical thing. SS is a regressive tax and it doesn't need to be that way. Republicans OTOH wanted to present a $2 TRILLION prize to Wall Street (great lovers of working class interests LOL) by privatizing SS on their way to deliberately bankrupting the country. Medicare/Medicaid is a big issue because working class people have parents who will hit the big doughnut hole perhaps in time for the November elections. Most people aren't unionized. Hence you have WalMart locking people inside their stores to clean them. I'm sure working class people would like to return to the days of Upton Sinclair . What is the mechanism by which a higher federal minimum wage would lead to wage compression? Are you talking about a lowering of wages because you believe that we have a static income pie? Yet you guys support massive, debilitating tax cuts for the ultrawealthy because you think it would lead to more job growth and a bigger economy? Those two arguments don't make any sense. If you give money to the poorer parts of society, they'll spend it and put it back into the economy. Democrats want a reduction in DEMAND for oil which is a limited resource and the cause of much strife in the world. When DEMAND goes down prices go down. Republican oil price = $3.00+. Democratic oil price = half that. Why would Republicans be in favor of lowering taxes on cigarettes and beer? When working class people get sick, they'll have to die in the gutter because Republicans won't provide universal healthcare. Dems will. Wow. You paint Republicans as very evil. Republicans have bigger governments than Dems. Are you kidding? Have you looked at the 45% increase in the NATIONAL DEBT under Bush in just 6 years? That's more than every other President...combined. That's smaller government? Talk to Buckley the original modern conservative. He's aghast as are many truly conservative Republicans. So they vote Republican in order to be able to abuse their children in public? So they vote Republican in order not to have art in public spaces but in order to spend $400 billion on a gigantic killing machine formerly known as Iraq? If the working class buys the propaganda from drug addict and known liar Rush who earns about $30 million/year for lying to them, then they deserve Bush stealing from them. There will always be knuckle-dragging nimrods in the world. The good thing is that if the votes were actually counted and properly tallied, Dems would win. Why do you think Republicans lie to their constituency? Why do you think Republicans cover over their theft with Schiavo, Gay Marriage, God Talk, Terrorism Fears? It's obvious that Republican policies are very, very, very bad for middle class America. Why do you think Dems want people to read more and know more? It's obvious that Dem policies are much, much, much better for middle class America. Bush has an approval rating of 31%. There are plenty of working class Americans who don't approve of him. The rating for this Republican Congress is even lower. You should give the working class more credit. They see the gas prices and the increase in food costs and the way their wages barely budge (thank you for your 15 years of service, here's a nickle an hour raise!).
